XTERRA Victoria: The First of Many Trail Runs
Each summer Human Powered Racing hosts a packed XTERRA weekend. The XTERRA Trail Run is the first event, and this year it’s happening on July 6th.
This gorgeous, steep route takes you through the forest that surrounds Durrance Lake in Victoria, BC. It is 14km, and three laps. Each lap starts and ends at the finish line. This is wonderful for ensuring you are getting consistent applause for your efforts. It is also great because about every half hour you’re expected back in the same place where they have water and first aid.
The XTERRA Trail Run was my first trail event. I’d run trails before, but inconsistently and without a training plan. Since participating in this event, though, trail running has become my primary focus. In the next five months I am registered for four trail runs, and hope to do more!
I would highly recommend the XTERRA Trail Run to anyone thinking about transitioning from road to trail (or to anyone wanting to jump right in with trails!). I would also suggest training trails before this race because it is a challenging course… and I did not do enough of that. Hope to see you out there!
