The Big Island Challenge

Human Powered Racing has created a series of challenge events to give our athlete community a focus during these times of social isolation and physical distancing. We understand your desire to push your limits and share your need to set and achieve goals. The Human Powered Challenges are a way to accomplish this in the absence of group events. You can complete each challenge while still being socially responsible and safeguarding against the spread of COVID-19.

The Big Island Challenge is the second of these challenges. The challenge is to run 86 Kilometres, the equivalent of from Kona Pier to Hawi on the Big Island of Hawaii, during the month of June. For an added challenge run the distance both ways! Each participant will receive a commemorative plaque designed and manufactured right here on Vancouver Island by Precision Laser Engraving. As you reach milestones along the way you will receive medallions that mount on the plaque. There is a medallion for reaching the half way point at Mauna Lani, a medallion for reaching Hawi, and a special medallion for completing the return journey.

We might not be able to train in Hawaii right now but we can visualize and imagine being there again one day. Grab your shades and a visor and hit the road (or treadmill)!

Go to the event page to register for the Big Island Challenge. Each participant will be listed on the Challenge progress page where participants, friends and family can follow your progress. Track your progress and send us proof in any format that records the date and distance run.
