The Kicking Horse Challenge

The Kicking Horse Challenge is an event to give runners and triathletes a focus for training and a goal to achieve. The Challenge is to climb the equivalent of the Kicking Horse Pass during the month of October.

The Kicking Horse Pass sits in the Canadian Rocky Mountains at 1640 meters of elevation. It is the pass through which the Trans Canada Highway passes through the Rocky Mountains.

To meet the Challenge you must climb 1640 meters on foot during the month of October. You can run, hike or walk anywhere. Log your elevation gain and submit proof to us via the link.

Proof can be via any format that records elevation. It can be by completing a route with a known elevation or by recording elevation gain on a device.

Everyone who enters the Kicking Horse Challenge will receive a commemorative plaque. Everyone who completes the challenge will receive a medallion to mount on the plaque to honour the achievement. There is special medallion for anyone who completes double the elevation gain during the month.

You can track your progress on the Kicking Horse Challenge progress page listing participants and their total progress, updated daily. This page will be accessible to the public so that your friends and family can follow your run.

These are challenging times for everyone, particularly for athletes. Covid 19 has caused the cancellation of races, events, and training camps. Physical Distancing makes it impossible to train with our teammates or training partners.
