Rhythm

When I talk to athletes about training and racing I often find myself telling them to find rhythm.
Whether it is swimming, biking or running, finding a flow of movement that becomes rhythmic is what I was always striving for. Even to this day, when I am out running or playing sports, that is what I want, rhythm. Finding a fast rhythm is optimal, but that usually takes care of itself once you find yourself concentrating on relaxed breathing and form. When you look at all of the greats in any sport they have this in common. The guys I looked up to and tried to emulate through my career all raced with this rhythm (Peter Reid, Tim Deboom and Mark Allen really stick out in my mind).  The next time you are out training, try using “Rhythm” as your mantra.
