The Goose Relay and Ultra Wrap Up
The First Annual Goose 50k Relay and Ultra is in the books. A great group of runners and volunteers assembled on Harbour road last Saturday morning for the 8am start. After a quick reading of the rules by race director Rob Dibden they were off and the race was on. Island Traffic Services and a number of enthusiastic volunteers were on hand to shut down the traffic at all major road crossings. This allowed runners to travel along unimpeded during the early “in town” stages of the race.
In all, a total of 10 teams battled it out for supremacy in a number of different divisions, while 11 solo competitors took on the entire 50k. Saturday evening runners and volunteers re-assembled (some may have hobbled) to Upstairs and Darcy’s for a great after party where the race awards (beer glasses, fittingly enough) were handed out and story’s were exchanged. The planning has already begun for the 2014 edition of this event. We hope to see you there.
Overall winners of this years event were;
Relay Division – Heavily Panting Runners (3:43:59)
Ultra Male – James Hiebert (4:04:20)
Ultra Female – Katy Milne (5:02:52)
