Canada Day Weekend

Another Canada Day has come and gone and with it another trip to the top of Hurricane Ridge. Once again a group of about 100 cyclists boarded the 6:10 Coho ferry to Port Angeles. This is an annual event for Human Powered Racing and despite the unsettled weather we had over 20 athletes make the journey. As always, it was a very quick trip with the 30km ride from ferry to the top of the mountain done as quickly as possible in order to get back for the 12:45 ferry back to Canada. The ride up was pleasant, but the top brought some rain and a rather cool descent. Everyone was happy to enjoy a few cold beers on the way home.

After a very quick ascent to the top of Hurricane Ridge, HPR athlete Fawn Whiting was getting ready to return to the site of her very first triathlon, the Cowichan Challenge. This time she was not riding a borrowed 10 speed with down tube shifters, but instead was mixing it up with the guys at the front of the race. Fawn finished as the first female and 5th overall with the day’s second fastest run. Congratulations Fawn!
