After the 2013 Goose Relay and Ultra

The 2013 Goose Relay and 50K Ultra, the first ever, happened on May 11. The weather was perfect for a long run, overcast and mild. The mood was relaxed and energized as the Ultras and first group of relay participants waited at the start line on Harbour Road just before 7 am. Island Traffic Services and Medivan were on the job to ensure that everyone had a safe journey out to Sooke Potholes along the Galloping Goose Trail. A fantastic group of volunteers were out to assist participants and keep things moving smoothly. Everyone who started made it to the end, and everyone had a great time. The after party at Upstairs Cabaret was great. We had the place to ourselves and everyone had a chance to let their hair down and get to know many of the other participants. The turn out of Ultra competitors was truly impressive. The beer glass awards were a big hit!

We asked for feedback from participants and volunteers after the event to see what we can improve on for next year. There were a few suggestions, but overwhelmingly the response was positive with everyone saying that they would definitely do the event again next year. Many of the relay participants were inspired to give the Ultra a try next year.

We are now planning the 2014 Goose Relay and Ultra. Watch for registration to open soon at www.gooserelay.ca.
