Human Powered Update

2023 is shaping up to be a great year for the team at Human Powered Racing. We started the year with an amazing training camp in the Santa Monica Mountains outside LA in January. The Vertical Camp consists of four days of riding, running and swimming in the California sunshine. It is a welcome break from the Vancouver Island winter.

The 2023 Parksville 360, an annual training event, had the best weather in recent memory. Many of our members and friends joined the ride to Parksville on Saturday and back to Victoria on Sunday in sunshine and light breezes. The ride support was awesome and Marsha’s cookies fuelled some break out riding.

Racing is at the core of what we do and our team members are participating in a full race schedule this year. We had a number of people racing in the VIRA Island Race Series. Members of Human Powered Racing have raced at Lavaman on the Big Island, at the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon, and at the Mallorca 70.3. We have a large contingent racing various disciplines at the Oliver Triathlon weekend. Some of the local races our members are racing at include the Westwood Lake Triathlon, the Victoria 70.3, the Victoria Half, XTERRA Victoria and the Elk Lake Triathlon. Thank you to the health practitioners at Arbutus Physiotherapy for keeping us healthy in the pursuit of our goals.

Human Powered Racing will host our full compliment of races in 2023. The season starts off with the West Shore Youth Triathlon, presented by Kersten Orthodontics, on May 27; followed by the Victoria Youth Triathlon, presented by Kersten Orthodontics, on June 11; the Triathlon of Compassion on June 2; the Cowichan Challenge on July 2; the XTERRA Victoria Trail Run, presented by Outway, on July 8; XTERRA Victoria, presented by Arbutus Physiotherapy, on July 9; and SwimRun Victoria on July 23.

As always we count on our awesome volunteers to make Human Powered events fun and safe for our racers. We extend special thanks to Gerald and Lisa at Kersten Orthodontics for supporting youth racing in Victoria.
