Human Powered Youth Racing in 2023

At Human Powered Racing we believe that youth racing is the future of our sport. Human Powered Racing has four youth races to offer in 2023 including three races in the Kersten Orthodontics Greater Victoria Youth Race Series.

Human Powered Youth Races

  • The West Shore Youth Triathlon
  • The Victoria Youth Triathlon
  • The Triathlon of Compassion
  • The Cowichan Challenge

Our season kicks off on May 27 with the West Shore Youth Triathlon at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre. Race #1 in the Youth Race Series, the West Shore Youth Triathlon is a great race to get your race season started. In 2023 it is an opportunity to preview the new bike course format that has been implemented for the BC Super Series.

Next up is the Victoria Youth Triathlon on June 11th at Uvic. Race #2 in the Youth Race Series, Vic Youth has long been the premier youth triathlon on Vancouver Island. It is part of the BC Super Series with elite U15, Junior and U23 racing as well as a full range of youth age group races. There are new bike and run courses for 2023.

The Triathlon of Compassion, the third race in the Youth Series, is on June 25th at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre. ToC is a fundraising event for the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre and includes a full range of youth distances along side the adult sprint race.

The Cowichan Challenge at Fuller Lake on July 2nd is a fundraiser for Cowichan Search and Rescue and includes full youth divisions along side the adult races. It is the only race on Vancouver Island to feature an open water swim for kids. The swim is set up to be easily manageable for young swimmers and it is a great race for youth athletes to experience racing in open water.

Everyone who completes all three races in the Kersten Orthodontics Greater Victoria Youth Race Series receives a coveted Race Series hoody. Thanks to Gerald and Lisa Kersten for their ongoing support of youth racing on Vancouver Island!

The Human Powered Racing Youth Team has been training hard since January in preparation for the racing season. Watch for our young athletes as they toe the line at races this summer. To learn more about our youth team or to register for our youth races visit our website here.
